Literacy Skills
Does your child have difficulties reading and writing? They may need additional support with their literacy skills, looking at the key skills surrounding reading comprehension and phonics.
What are Literacy Skills?
Literacy skills looks at the core skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We offer tailored support to increase awareness of the different language sounds, awareness of print and the relationship between letters and sounds.
Assessing Literacy Skills with a Speech Therapist
We begin by undertaking a comprehensive language and literacy skills assessment so we can understand how to best support your child. This allows us to determine which area/s of literacy your child struggles with and where we should focus our efforts. We look at a range of skills including:
- Understanding of written language (reading comprehension)
- Speech sound proficiency
- Decoding skills which include phonological awareness and knowledge of sound-letters
